A pool dig in Goodyear is part excavation and part drainage. The hole is the easy bit to price; what happens to the dirt and to stormwater around the new pool takes more thought.

Dig costs
Angi's 2026 pool excavation guide puts the national average at $2,500, with most homeowners paying $500 to $3,020.
| Size (ft) | Cubic yards | Angi estimate |
|---|---|---|
| 10 x 12 | 27 | $450 |
| 12 x 24 | 64 | $1,100 |
| 14 x 28 | 87 | $1,500 |
| 20 x 40 | 178 | $3,020 |
Angi prices dirt at $8 to $25 per cubic yard and rocky ground at $40 to $100. Labor is about 80 percent of the cost, and equipment rental runs about $100 an hour.
Drainage after the dig
Goodyear's stormwater manual says lots drain to the street at a minimum 1% slope, and that stormwater may not be discharged onto a city street, gutter or alley from a retention system. A new pool and deck change how a backyard sheds water, so ask the contractor how the finished grade will drain.
The spoil
A 14 by 28 foot pool is about 87 cubic yards by Angi's table. Many excavators include removal; if not, Angi lists dumpsters at $300 to $480. Spreading it on the lot changes the grades, so check it against the drainage plan first.

- Get the pool permit sorted; ask the City of Goodyear which barrier rules apply.
- Request Arizona 811 marks before the dig date.
